BINDING TOGETHER! How one company has successfully transferred its knowledge of Precision Spreading Technology from the Agricultural to Construction industry with the introduction of SpreadTec Binding Agent Spreader into Ireland. The Irish launch is on the back of its successful market entry into the UK market with its UK distributor Reeds Construction and Engineering.
Geotechnical engineering is subject to new developments; processes are changing and new technologies are gaining more and more influence. The rising costs of materials, reduction of input costs, high accuracy & traceability are all key drivers in the market with an ever increasing demand for high specification precision spreaders.
Thomas Reed Managing Director of Reeds said “The unique design of SpreadTec enhances the precision of binder applications for soil stabilisation, which leads to impressive gains for Civil Engineering projects. Decreasing wastage of binders to increase soil load bearing capacity and improvement of soil for engineered fill. Accuracy is so important when offering value engineering and environmental gain”.
“SpreadTec has already attained a great reputation, working on large scale projects such as HS2, various infrastructure schemes such as the A465 Heads of the Valleys and industrial such as Coventry Airport in the UK. We have a very solid relationship with Running Gear Ltd. the manufacturers of SpreadTec” he added.
SpreadTec was established in 2020 and is the construction division of AgriSpread, a family owned and operated business who manufacture advanced precision spreading equipment, exporting to countries worldwide from its base in County Mayo, Ireland.
Better known for their brand AgriSpread, the company has been supporting its customers for almost two decades in providing quality built, robust, durable fertiliser, lime & bulk product spreaders. Through an ambitious innovation strategy, with the goal of diversifying their product offering they developed the SpreadTec Soil Stabilisation Binding Agent Cement & Lime Spreader. The range consists of trailed single & tandem axle along with truck/ADT chassis mounted models available in 10 – 18m3 capacity sizes.
“Manufacturing machinery is in our DNA and our goal is to build the best in the market by investing in the latest engineering technology” said David Murphy Managing Director of SpreadTec, who is at the helm of the company driving it forward.
“R&D projects are driven by a market need and as a business we need to be open to new ways of doing things and trying new things out. We commissioned the first SpreadTec spreader in the summer of 2022 and have continued to refine the technology through testing and listening to market needs. As a company we are relatively nimble and can implement some custom design features if that fits in with the overall scope of works” he added.
Laurence McMullan of McMullan Agri in Ballymoney, a SpreadTec dealer recently sold a TBM-10 Auto (Trailed Binder Meter) to Garret McCormick of McCormick Contracts / Soil-Tec in Ballycastle, Antrim.
“We now have a SpreadTec proving its capabilities on the ground in Northern Ireland, working on stabilising phase of the new LCC Group New Galvanising Plant in Cookstown” said Garret.
“What really stands out is the SpreadTec technology behind the user interface, which was developed in house. Traceability is a major part of any project we undertake, we can record and export the data very easily, the machine is very operator friendly. The Computerised automatic rate control using hydraulically driven metering wheel floor & auger is so accurate” he added.
SpreadTec have an in-house design team who developed the software and electronic control system which has remote monitoring capabilities. Next steps for SpreadTec is to develop the model range and options over the next few years and to grow their international distributor & dealer network.
